- Q1: What exactly is The Coalition?
A1: The Coalition is an English-language network that seeks to resist both the right-wing Trump agenda and the agenda of similar parties in Europe through nonviolent activism. - Q2: Who is in The Coalition?
A2: Early members whose names you might recognize include American Voices Abroad Berlin, the Berlin Global Forum, the Linke Internationals, and Pussy Grabs Back. Many unaffiliated individuals have also joined The Coalition. More members – both groups and individuals – are expected. - Q3: If the membership is so diverse, how do people manage to work together?
A3: The Coalition wants to find common ground among diverse political ideas and to articulate powerful and clear responses to the onslaught of misinformation and harmful actions of the right. Diversity should make the coalition strong. - Q4: Why did AVA join this coalition?
Q4: At first we joined with other groups on an ad hoc basis to organize the Inauguration Day demonstration. Now that the coalition is solidifying, we see possibilities for increasing the impact of our actions. We want to resist Trump and his European counterparts and believe that solidarity is essential to success. And that success was evident in the #NoBanNoWall demonstration at Pariser Platz on February 4 when about 1,200 people turned out. See photos in post below. - Q5: How can I learn more about The Coalition?
Q5: The Coalition has a website. It also has a weekly no-discussion newsletter. To sign up for the newsletter, write to Annalisa Wilde at annalisa.wilde@gmail.com. - Q6: How can I work directly with the coalition?
Q6: The Coalition is still forming, so you can get in on the ground floor. For example, there is an open meeting this evening, Thursday, February 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Südblock, Admiralstr. 1-2. So just join the meeting; the atmosphere will be informal. Then you can decide how much more involvement you want.
